Newark is often the cheapest flight out of New York and the most expensive ride to reach. The airport is across the Hudson in New Jersey, so every trip involves a tunnel or a bridge, a stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike and, on the way back into the city, a Port Authority toll. Metered cabs and app rides add those on at the end. We put them in the price before you book, so the figure on your confirmation is what you pay.
Which crossing, and why it matters
There are three ways between Manhattan and Newark Airport, and choosing well is most of the job:
- The Holland Tunnel comes out in lower Manhattan and is usually best for the Financial District, Tribeca and SoHo.
- The Lincoln Tunnel comes out in Midtown West and is usually best for Midtown, Hell’s Kitchen and the Upper West Side.
- The George Washington Bridge is the long way round for most of Manhattan, but the right call for upper Manhattan, the Bronx and Westchester.
Your chauffeur checks the live traffic on all three before leaving and picks the one that is actually moving. That single decision is worth twenty minutes on a bad afternoon.
Coming from Queens or Long Island? Newark is a long run from the east side of the city, often 75 minutes or more. If your flight lands at JFK or LaGuardia instead, it is worth comparing; for many eastern Queens and Nassau addresses the ride from JFK is half the time.
Drive times from Newark Airport
| Destination | Typical time | Usual crossing |
|---|---|---|
| Financial District / Tribeca | 35–65 min | Holland Tunnel |
| Midtown Manhattan | 40–75 min | Lincoln Tunnel |
| Upper East Side | 50–85 min | Lincoln Tunnel or George Washington Bridge |
| Downtown Brooklyn | 50–85 min | Holland Tunnel, or the Verrazzano via Staten Island |
| JFK Airport | 60–100 min | Staten Island and the Verrazzano Bridge |
| Hoboken / Jersey City | 20–35 min | New Jersey Turnpike |
| Westchester | 60–90 min | George Washington Bridge |
Meeting you at Newark
Newark has three terminals, A, B and C, and international arrivals use more than one of them depending on the airline. Give us your flight number and we confirm the terminal before your chauffeur leaves. On domestic flights your chauffeur waits at baggage claim; on international flights, in the arrivals hall just outside customs. Either way they hold a sign with your name and you get a text with their number when you land.
Free waiting time starts at landing: 60 minutes for international arrivals, 30 for domestic. If your flight is delayed, the pick-up moves automatically and costs nothing extra.
Choosing a vehicle
Newark is a hub for long-haul flights, and long-haul passengers travel heavy. For three people with checked bags, skip the sedan and book a Suburban; it has the most room behind the third row of anything we run short of a van. Families and small groups of up to fourteen fit in a Sprinter, and cruise and tour groups arriving together move best in a coach with luggage bays underneath.

Newark questions
Are tolls really included in the price?
Yes. Tunnel or bridge tolls, New Jersey Turnpike tolls and airport parking are all in the flat rate we quote. You will not see them added at the end of the ride.
How early should I leave Manhattan for a Newark flight?
For a domestic flight, leave Midtown about three hours before departure on a weekday afternoon. For an international flight, allow three and a half to four hours. Weekend mornings are quicker. We will suggest a time for your route when you book.
Can you take me from Newark to a cruise terminal?
Yes. Cape Liberty in Bayonne is about 20 to 30 minutes from Newark, and the Manhattan and Brooklyn cruise terminals 45 to 75. Tell us your sailing time and we will plan the pick-up around it.
Do you pick up at the Newark AirTrain or the train station?
We meet passengers inside the terminal, not at the AirTrain. If you are arriving by rail at Newark Penn Station or the Newark Airport rail station, tell us and we will confirm a pick-up point outside.
Can I book a one-way ride from Manhattan to Newark?
Of course. Many clients fly out of Newark and back into JFK or LaGuardia, and book each leg separately. We track the return flight wherever it lands.
